About the Event
This is an introductory lesson, where we will explore the timeframe of study (1856 - 1917) and consider what key dates arise in this. This first lesson will also introduce four broad themes in Russian history, which point to the revolutionary events of 1917 (The Russian Revolution). These themes are: (i) People; (ii) Belief; (iii) Print Culture; and (iv) Border. In the following lessons, we will take a closer look at each theme in turn and think about what ways they were necessary and sufficient for the Russian Revolution to take place. Students will gain an appreciation of historical trends and take a big picture view of the historical and cultural dynamics at play in Russia between 1856 and 1917 (some of which we might conclude are still at play today).
